The Mutton at Hazeley Heath

Hartley Wintney has so much to offer and we feel lucky to have our showroom in such a beautiful village. With an array of interesting boutiques and shops, top quality butchers, bakers and florists to name a few, there’s always plenty to see after you visit us.

Following our recent Christmas lunch, we strongly suggest you plan a slightly longer visit and book a table at The Mutton, a 5 minute drive north in Hazeley Heath, there’s also some great walks you can do using it as a base.

The Mutton has recently re-opened following a fire a few years ago and has undergone a beautiful and sympathetic refurbishment. The interior I’d summarise as “Tastefully cosy” with a classic Soho house vibe, the open fire quietly crackling away in a corner. Friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble for the family run team; the Menu is extensive and considerate with good vegetarian and Vegan options.

To start with I chose the Wild Garlic mushrooms served on homemade sour dough toast with a soft poached egg and Parsley Gremolata. My complements to the kitchen, as it was absolutely delicious and certainly left me craving for more.

For my main course I had a beautiful Grilled Mutton Shoulder with Hasselback potatoes, spouts with chestnuts and a Mutton Croquette, it was full of flavour and was accompanied with a beautiful rich gravy. We have all talked about this course again following the meal and we look forward to eating it again.

So good were the first dishes, unfortunately no room was left for dessert, but we are planning a return visit to sample as many as possible. I did force down a coffee and mince pie, which again proved to be a great choice and rounded the meal off perfectly.

We highly recommend this establishment on every level from ambiance, service to quality of food.

Our rating is 5/5. Well done to all at The Mutton.
